چکیده

Effect of clipping the coat of the Japanese macaque on thermoregulatory responses was studied. Heat production was significantly increased in clipped animals in comparison without clipped coats at ambient temperatures ranging from 5 to 25 degrees C. At ambient temperatures of 5, 15, and 25 degrees C tissue thermal conductance and cooling constant were significantly higher in clipped animals. Clipped animals could maintain thermal equilibrium at an ambient temperature of 5 degrees C, conpensating for the increase of heat loss by elevating heat production markedly.

Thermoregulation of the Japanese macaque living in a snowy mountain area.

A field investigation was conducted to study the thermoregulatory responses in nine Japanese macaques (Macaca fuscata) living in a snowy mountain area, Jigoku-Dani (Hell Valley, about 1,000 m above sea level) in Shiga Heights in central Japan in late January 1975. At about the same time, a laboratory study was made on four Japanese macaques reared in mild climate in an outdoor cage in Inuyama C...

Creating a population-averaged standard brain template for Japanese macaques (M. fuscata)

A number of modern digital anatomy techniques, based on structural MR brain images, have recently become applicable to the non-human primate brain. Such voxel-based quantitative techniques require a species-specific standardized brain template. Here we present a brain template for the Japanese macaque (Macaca fuscata). The template was designed to be used as a tool for spatially normalising Jap...

Towards thirty years of ethological research on the Japanese macaque (Macaca fuscata) colony of the Rome Zoo: a review

In May 1977, a group of 27 Japanese macaques (9 males and 18 females) was captured as a whole near mount Takasaky, Oita prefecture, in Southern Japan, and transferred to the Rome Zoo (Bioparco, since 1998). The group was housed in an enclosure formed by a large (i.e. 700 m2) outdoor area and by 100 m2 indoor quarters with concrete floor and walls (see Figure 1). The enclosure remained basically...

Background: Intraocular foreign bodies (IOFBs) such as air gun pellet is a rare finding in wild animals like Rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta). The purpose of the present scientific report is to describe the surgical retrieval of IOFB secondary to ballistic wound in a wild Rhesus macaque.
